There are special arrangements made to get you landslide if a flight is cancelled, but this usually involves escorting the whole group to an airport hotle and locking you in, until they come back and get you!

It has happened to BA crew when aircraft go tech in DME and they are not allowed out of the hotel until they are escorted back to the aircraft.
