Have a look at most of the Europe - Southeast Asia flights! The large downtime is not only a problem to LH (it also applies to BA)

Most airlines leave Europe in the evening and arrive in the mid afternoon in Southeast Asia.
They cannot leave in the late afternoon, because then they would land in the middle of the night in Europe. Thus, must flights depart Southeast Asia around midnight and arrive in Europe in the early morning.

Southeast Asian airlines are at an advantage, because they can utilize their planes better at their hubs.
