Tim Ho Wan is a place where you order dim sum, sit down, eat and leave. It's not tea house experience. You don't even get to choose your type of tea.

But it's fine to do solo at either. You just can't sample as many types as if you go with a group, though more restaurants now offer dim sum samplers, designed for single customers.
