1. Not sure why OP believes that UA ought to cover his wife's hotel for the first night. The Captain's illness presumably isn't within UA's control and it's a little silly to keep reserve crews lying around at a smallish station such as HNL with only 5 737 operations/day.

2. The second night seems to be a fourth-hand beef. "My wife got a room, but others may not have."
