I have used the AS portal a few times to purchase AMEX Gift Cards. The miles will begin tracking in your AS portal in about 4 weeks (on Sunday) then they will post to your AS Mileage plan account within 5 days (generally)


Purchase Date / Tracking in AS Portal
Apr 6 / May 4
Jun 11 / Jun 29
Jun 28 / Jul 20
Jul 28 / Not tracking yet

I take screen shots and do not use fee-free codes unless they are listed on the shopping portal.
