I want to go to Japan but was worried going without an organised tour.

And the organised tours cost a fortune.

Do you speak a little Japanese?

So it seems doable to go without a tour group.

I did go to Tokyo in 1976 and was too scared to go for a long walk as the street signs are all just in Japanese.

I had the same problem in Athens.
