The OP seems to be focused on the speed of getting the jet bridge hooked up.

I go to Asia (mostly through SFO) multiple times a year with a positioning flight to SFO. I haven't noticed a huge difference in hooking up the jet bridge in the US vs. Asia.

Baggage return - about the same.
Departure and landing, about the same, except in China to major airports there are frequent delays in both takeoff and landing because of military air space controls
Security clearance about a wash
But in some countries - including Japan there is extra security plane side as you board. No liquids allowed period. And woe be into you if you try to take alcohol even though you ought it after security in Duty Free.
On return to the US Global Entry definitely helps.
