Definitely drive up. Get an early start if possible to avoid traffic (not bad outbound on Sunday anyway), and have breakfast at the original Sambo's restaurant on the beach in Santa Barbara just beyond the wharf. Spend the day walking around the Wharf area with all the art shows, as well as visiting the shops/restaurants on State Street.

I'll be up there this weekend, too. Maybe we'll run into each other.
