United used both a 747 and a 777 on the BKK route, depending on the season. Yes, they actually added capacity at times...which kinda shoots the "Bangkok never profitable" theory.

United added a 2nd flight IAH<->NRT at about the same time they pulled BKK. After a lot of discussion on the original thread, I am pretty sure Bangkok was profitable, but United thought they could have the best of both worlds. Pawn all their customers off on to the inferior ANA codeshare while using that plane to make money somewhere else. Unintended consequences can be a ....., though. When you remove destinations off your route map, it has impacts beyond that single route.
