I think AMEX can see itemized transactions. I notice the restaurant bills put on my HHonors show the Tips in the detailed description of the charge.
Have you ever clicked open each line to see what the details are? You would be surprised by what you see.
I clicked open my last statement and didn't find one itemized listing. But then I also didn't buy anything from LL Bean, Staples, and Sears. Also the Amazon Payment I did didn't show up itemized.
