Business class seats

I just booked Business class from LAX to BNE (Brisbane) and was not able to select the seats on Delta website. Says to go to Virgin Australia to do so, but Virgin Australia wants their confirmation code, not Delta's. Any advice?

Has anyone experience with the reliability of this process? Any problems? Did Virgin Australia accept and honor the seat selection? Does delta.com provide a Virgin Australia reservation number to enable "Manage My Booking" on the Virgin Australia website?

I notice that Virgin Australia does not offer OLCI for international flights, and requires airport check-in. Accordingly, any problems with check-in at the Virgin Australia desks, using your Delta E-ticket?

I'm considering using this process, but I'm seeking any recent history of possible problems. Thank you for your help.
