Wanted to avoid going through US and find the cheapest available. Typically been using points for back and forth travel to YYZ so don't have a tremendous amount of experience booking Europe travel on points, although, have read a lot here over the years.
Dates are mid July 2015. (16-31)

The key, as previously stated, is to start with the TA segment and build from there.
I can tell you that there are 4 J tickets available IST-YUL on TK for July 31. I can see a connecting flight from FCO - dep. 7:05, arr. 10:35, so giving you lots of time to enjoy the awesome lounge at IST. Not seeing anything getting you to YEG, so probably will have to overnight in YUL, but if you're willing to do that, this is probably your best option fee-wise (paid less than $80/pers. for our IST-YYZ-YQB tickets)
