I have a similar situation coming up in a few weeks. I am on a Delta award business ticket JFK FCO IST ticketed on Alitalia. Originally my connect time was 2:30 in FCO. After departure time changes I ended up with 1:25.

I called DM desk. They said I would not have any issues. Then I asked the agent at the sky club...useless. Then I called the DM desk again and they changed my leg out of JFK to Delta metal leaving 1:30 earlier.

If OP did not originally ticket it with the short connection, I would see if it could be changed.
