My wife will be flying with our two kids from LAX to ICN next spring. We have family pooling of mileage with Asiana, but only enough miles to cover two award/bonus tickets for the kids (the youngest is in Magic Miles, so his seat only costs 75% of an adult seat in miles), meaning the plan is one paid ticket for the wife, plus the two awards tickets for the kids.

We're thinking to hold off on the purchase of the wife's ticket, in anticipation of lower fares, and that is what I wanted to ask you-all about.

If you were in my shoes, would you do it this way? In other words, can you foresee any problems in getting the award seat tickets now, and waiting a few months to buy the paid ticket? Or would it be wiser to hold off on the award seats for a time, and get all three tickets on the same itinerary? We have a specific date in mind and the whole plan rests upon our departing LAX on schedule.
