Generally DTW is a better connecting airport, but in this case I agree with mattp1987. Connect at MSP because, worst case scenarios, your second connection is in CDG instead of DTW. If you miss your flight to DTW, they can rebook you onto one of two AMS flights or a CDG flight. If you misconnect at DTW, you'll be making a third connection, either at JFK (if you can get there in time) ... or in AMS.
I'll third this point - if your short MSP connection busts, you'll have multiple options to get back on track. If you miss the DTW connection you'll probably still have the option to go DTW-AMS-FRA from there, but you'd almost certainly be too late to make a connection at another US hub.
