Would be curious to get more info from OP as to what/how/etc., this was all about. What he was told specifically, etc.
A long time ago, you were able to route N.America-> Asia1 via Asia2 as long as you paid the N.America-> Asia2 redemption rate (currently 55K.)
But a little hard to imagine an AAgent-- "several agents" according to OP-- making this mistake so many years later.
