Only reason to shut it down is if the costs to maintain it exceed the income produced and if the founders are unwilling to continue funding it in hopes of changing that.
Suggesting that there should only be one place where content can/should exist is silly. By that theory we can shut down competing news sites that drow lower traffic numbers than CNN or NYTimes or FoxNews, right?
And more to the point, even if it did lose money the founders may be willing to run it a loss indefinitely as it ties their various ventures together.
