If it's a BHD flight you can re-work your way through Flight Connections, long walk but just follow the signs to T2 (or whatever). Just show your T5 boarding pass at the start of the walk, by the now closed down WH Smith.
If DUB, you need to take the connections bus, if provided, else you're going to be placed landside and with no way in to T1/T2.
Any other location follow the signs for Flight Connection then T2 then T1 if necessary. You may get challenged if you show the T5 boarding pass in this scenario so you'll need your old boarding pass and Angel card handy.

I'll be arriving from LUX, so is that last option really that difficult? It doesn't sound particularly arduous at all! I take it that route is therefore legitimate and officially allowed, or would I be relying on their discretion to let me through?
