I'm here at the Homewood Suites in Halifax right now.

So far I'd definitely recommend the place. Some random musings:
* parking is in a garage, and ~$20/day (there are a few Diamond spaces as well as maybe 5 unmarked spots)
* pool and workout room are in the basement, shared for both the Hampton and Homewood
* there's a terrace on the 2nd floor (again shared with Hampton and Homewood) with tables, lounge chairs, and 2 gas grills
* check-in was super smooth. we arrived about 20 min early (through PHL no less), had no problem getting the rental, and traffic around midnight on Wednesday was close to nothing. Google maps said to go through Dartmouth, the Hertz guy said to take the freeway further, which we had planned to do. but I ended up on the freeway to Dartmouth. it is $1 to drive across the bridge, each way. I think it was about 30 min from YHZ to the property, and the hotel was easy to find (it is so big) once in town. the gal working the night shift was super nice, was expecting me, had my room keys ready, etc. plus she gave some local restaurant info under the door when she delivered newspapers ^
* yes it is, "downtown," but more on the edge. I'm rather surprised how hilly Halifax is. it is a hike to go nearly anywhere, and after our first walk out, we plan our route to take advantage of hills the most (or at least avoid the steepest hills)
* breakfast can be a bit busy, depending what time you go. this morning (Saturday) when we first arrived, most items had run out. but they were restocking, and in 2 min nearly everything was fresh.
* we have a 1-room king suite. it is nearly identical to what we had last year at the Homewood Suites Cleveland-Solon (kitchen, living room w/pull-out bed, tvs in both living and bedroom, king bed, ceiling fan in bedroom, bathroom has toilet and shower, sink area in area off bedroom). we're on the 14th floor with a view of the Citadel

Overall, so far at least, I'd definitely recommend this place. I like having the kitchen for drinks, leftover food, snacks, etc. Plus it is always nice having space to spread out if someone wants to sleep early. I really don't mind having to walk a little (maybe 5-10 min to the waterfront). Kind of enjoy being close, without being in the middle of the fray.

I do recommend checking rates periodically. We're leaving Monday for elsewhere in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick for a few days, and back 1 night before we leave. That night was originally a bit higher, but I checked yesterday and rates had dropped, so I adjusted my booking. The property does participate in the Hilton MVP program, so easy to adjust (-v- using a prepaid rate).

Feel free to ask any questions.
