If you know the flying patterns, you can book so that you have the same crew on the flight back.

I almost had this again a couple of weeks ago, when I had a 2-night stay in Hong Kong. I'd booked BA27 outbound, but for some good reason or other had had to book BA26 back. As it happened, BA26 had to fly very slowly so as not to land before 0432, so BA28 arrived at about the same time. And I therefore bumped into one of the outbound crew in T5 baggage reclaim, who proceeded to rib me about avoiding them on the way back.

Usually, it works well when you have the same crew going back and they recognise you, because you're treated as a long-lost friend from the moment you board - particularly if they already know this before you disembark from the outbound flight.

As it happens, I think that it's only one night in Sydney - it was certainly like that when WW was still operating the route, and on my last flight there I got the impression that the MF pattern remains the same. But I think it's 2 nights in Singapore in both directions.
