Don't know what to tell you about what UA is responsible for compensation, but I wouldn't expect anything more than a $250 voucher or something of that sort. They will not own up to the lost hotel and other reservations, as they were separate from UA. UA's responsibility is to deliver you to your destination.
Since Sweden is very much part of the EU, I'd suggest googling EU 261/04. There is a thread somewhere in this forum regarding UA and EU regulations...
