Doesn't seem silly to me. I've used takkyūbin to have even smaller bags delivered to avoid carrying them around together with my laptop bag when sightseeing somewhere. It's very efficient, and doesn't cost more than a few uses of coin lockers (something like 1000-yen-ish), so as long as you feel a bag will be cumbersome/inconvenient/etc. it's generally worth considering.
The only reason why I pointed out the complications of our bags, is because despite their size, it would be uncomfortable to spend a full day or afternoon sightseeing and enjoying Kamakura with a duffle bag in tow.
Which is exactly why takkyūbin might be a good idea. Again, not commenting on the main topic of this post, but yeah.
