No, don't worry, many do it

I found Kyoto boring and only did 2 side trips during sakura.
If it wasn't sakura period, I wouldn't bother with all the tourists and not-so-original sites.
I used Kansai thru pass and it was very convenient. But it was expensive and I am not sure it broke even.

Also, if you are into food, Osaka is a good place to be. Avoid tourist spots and you will have a great time.


But granted, you won't find many advertise their choice because...well... Kyoto-hating/disliking/ignoring is kind of taboo
(just kidding, I respect all those who like it, but it wasn't for me)
