Kamakura is a tourist destination for people visiting from Kanto, and is also home to a lot of commuters to Yokohama and Tokyo. As a result public transport is quite good (the Enoden, buses, monorail, etc.) and I don't know if it makes sense to rent a car if you're only planning to hit the highlights (Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, Hasedera, the Daibutsu, etc., which are the most well-linked by public transport). Lockers are available at Kamakura Station should you choose not to send your luggage ahead.

Unless you plan to visit places along the way that are inaccessible by public transport, I would stick with trains and buses. It will be cheaper and less stressful.
Thank you armagebedar,

Is there a typical "rush hour" driving from Kamakura back into Tokyo that would be best avoided? Keep in mind that we would be visiting on a Tuesday, so I imagine that the town of Kamakura itself would be much quieter, less crowded and thus, easier to find parking.

I would be more than happy to take the bus and forgo the rental car, but in the grand scheme of things, having to get from town to town, train to bus, back to train... would you still consider it more *convenient* than just simply getting behind the wheel of a rental?

Based on the bullet point list of sights that I posted above, would public transit be easily serviced to all of these spots?
