Reward Seat Availability - some truths come out

I have a reward booking for an intra-europe on LH later this year, using AP miles. My original flight was cancelled which bumped me to a flight much later in the day. Not a problem, there is an earlier flight, let me take that as the later flight gets in far too late.

LH shows availability, UA shows availability, in fact the person I am traveling with has an MP award on the earlier flight but AP says no availability. All are using Starlink.

In questionning the agent about this it is because:

The 10% of seats available for redemption include partner airlines, and they have used up their availability on the one city pair (it involves a connection).

However UA puts aside 10% of their own seats for redemption not including partner airlines. If someone wants to book on a partner airline, that comes out of a second pot, of an additional 10%. Basically UA has the potential to offer double the number of seats for reward purposes.

It all makes sense now why one can never get a reward seat when you want one.
