Whenever I read about "horror" stories my first thought is, the "victim" did something to provoke it. Lots of people have an attitude of "let's stick it to the man" and go looking for a fight. When I cross, I have passport in hand, say please and thank you, smile, answer all questions politely, and off I go with minimal hassle.

As the OP here I can assure you that absolutely did not happen. Firstly, I was tired having been traveling all day, but secondly, I was raised to always be polite. I even greet TSA screeners with a "Good morning/afternoon/evening". You can even check my posts in the Travel Security forums, I quote caselaw to
defend the actions of screeners. I brought none of this on myself except for having traveled to the D.R. for two days.
