Correct. I had Delta refuse me on a terrible NRT-SLC-MSP-YWG oversale NRT-HNL(J)-LAX-MSP-YWG (this was a while ago when I would do odd routings, no more) which I would have accepted instead of the $700 travel voucher they offered. They said no to any leg in J, so they got to pay someone IDB instead. Airlines seem stingy with upgrade reroutes in general.
I suspect Ben will look into what the official offer the DUB agent did/should have made was. I'm curious if AC would ever agree to route someone home in J vs. the paid for Y, when they would not only need to sign the ticket over to LH but provide significant cash to LH to supplement the signed over fare. Seems like AC should first offer a reroute on Y before no takers and going the drastic measure to offering J (on a Rouge ticket, no less!).
