$250 + 83,000 miles seems awfully steep for coach class in what I consider to be a cheap market. Cancun in July is reasonable from BUF. I suggest waiting to see how much the fares are going to be. If you're determined to use miles, I would wait until the 330-day mark to see if you can grab UA reward seats to save on both miles and fees.
I'm not totally set on using points since I know I will be going on much longer flights in the future, and may want to save my miles where I get a much better bang for the buck.
US Air has decent prices at approx $500pp return out of Buffalo.
But, since I am relatively new and not very savy to things related to Aeroplan rewards, I thought I might be missing something that this community can tell me.
