If you earn faster than you can spend, go CE, because why not? Otherwise the main advantage is the empty middle seat and/or some extra legroom.
I like legroom a *lot* so I'd probably do it even on a 100k balance unless it would jeopardise a big redemption. Even then I'd be likely to go for an exit row seat in preference as I'm not too bothered about the empty middle.
If I were six inches shorter, I'd be at the back of the bus given that you have lounge access anyway. (NB the CX lounge in CDG is excellent, not tried the AA one yet).
1. I have enough spare Avios to go CE, but seems like a waste as Emerald.
2. MAN to LHR is coach only, so only segment which offers CE is LHR-CDG.
3. Normally I would train it - I like Eurostar, but I am flying from CDG-DFW (on AA in F reward) the next morning. So figure it is better to arrive at CDG late that evening before and stay at the airport (Sheraton). If I arrive at the Paris North train station - then need to go out the CDG - but then again that is an easy nonstop train.
4. For now - I am allowing a 4 hour connection time at LHR to be able to use the LHR F lounge (as Emerald). Can eat in the lounge - so don't need food on the flight.
5. The benefit of CE is the empty seat and more overhead space.
6. The flight from LHR to CDG is the last evening flight from 9pm to 11pm time frame, so maybe no food anyway.
What about pre-boarding. Does CE pre-board overs others?
Is Emerald included in any pre-boarding?
I ticketed in coach, but as I understand it I can changed and upgrade with more Avios - up to 24 hours before if available. (and no fee as I understand it).
Other thought is - if the flight is delayed on the tarmac leaving LHR - then it always better to have more space. But I don't need food or drink - as all that will be available in the F lounge.
I will have carry on - so that is likely the only concern.
