Also, if your mortgage is say 1500 each month, can you pay 1,000 with serve, and send in a check for 500?

I just completed my first mortgage payment of about $1,400 on Serve. My bank was on their predefined list so I just needed to enter my loan number, etc. Target date for payment was a few days after I set it up. Confirmed today that payment was received at the bank.
