+1 for Pollen St Social and Berners Tavern (necessity to be in vicinity of Oxford St notwithstanding)

I also find Chavot to be quite relaxed, even though it is fairly formal on the surface, and the food is great (although a bit of a lard fest, in the finest French fashion). Certainly a room I'd be comfortable dining alone in.

Cecconis is also fun, in a semi-bling, Eurotrash kind of way, and then very convenient for the Royal Academy for a spot of culture.
