Upon rechecking the bid website, the minimum bid for my flight starts at $350 USD and goes up to $800. The bid meter indicates $550 as a "good" bid. The difference in cash fare for that one way flight is approximately $250. Fares don't seem to change for the next few months ahead.
So it seems the upgrade is not worth even the minimum bid because I could have technically purchased the upgraded fare for less...however not sure if I could have mixed business and economy fares for my other segments on the same ticket.
pmaclell - did you have a minimum required bid?
Update: So I ended up NOT getting the upgrade.
At T - 8 days the bid meter dropped the required minimum to $300 with no way of manually entering a different (lower) amount on the sliding scale.
The actual flight was delayed over 1 hour. I could not get a look at the business class seats to confirm whether or not they were actual lie flats because it was cordoned off with a separate jet bridge. On the first segment only a few of the the economy section seat back screens seemed to work. On the second segment they were all shut down completely. The delay resulted in an escorted transfer for a group of 10 of us at HGK onto the Air Canada flight which meant my checked bag did not make the connection.
So, had I gotten the upgrade, there would have been no time for the lounge, (likely) no AV system plus no luggage either
