I don't mind the five hours extra (including 1 hour and 15 minutes layover at Changi). The evening flight into Singapore is a good chance to have a drink, dinner, watch a movie and as I said before, Changi is a great airport. I use the lounge, have a quick shower and move on to the next flight.

My first flight with them was 25 years ago and I have never looked back. Every time I have to use another airline into China or Japan, I realize how good SIA's product is. Even to Europe their J product is hard to beat. The new airlines in the Middle East may be catching up, but I hate switching planes in the middle of the night. SIA is always like coming home, the same goes for Changi. I still seek a bit of the romance of travel and I think SIA is the only carrier left that still has that feeling.
For CX, I believe there are many FT-ers who travel TPE-HKG-Europe (North America) because of the more reasonable pricing ex-TPE (and the shorter hop there). I had personally taken advantage of ex-TPE flights when I was based in HKG

Indeed, I was less motivated to travel on SQ (via SIN) as well when I was still based in HKG (despite the cheaper price ex-HKG for SQ compared to CX) due to the home-base factor of flying CX (albeit at a premium).

The same logic applies now since I moved to SIN last year. I only took CX twice in the past 14 months (SIN-HKG on a J-redemption due to expiring miles too, and HKG-LAX in F-redemption). The others went SQ-way
