I am going to be transiting DFW on an international AA to international AA connection of about 4 hours.
Anyone know what will happen to the bags? Do I need to claim and recheck at customs, or can they be checked through?
It depends. If when you check in, your bags are tagged ITI, then no you won't have to reclaim your bags at DFW. If they aren't tagged ITI, then yes you will have to claim your bags, go through customs, and drop them back off.
