And surprise, surprise!!! Parker brought on board Hector Adler for a specific purpose.
And please don't make it seem that the US Airways which Parker took over in 2005 was a blooming flower. Because it was far from that. The pre-merger management made some serious mistakes as well that didn't disappear when Parker and Kirby stepped in.
US Airways was never a blooming flower financially, period, but then again America West had to buy it or they too would have gone under.
All I'm saying is that Parker made some very, very unintelligent mistakes, from making US domestic F a completely joke for many years and essentially making it a terrible product no one would pay for to stretching the long-haul fleet (with FAs who did not even speak the local language) to its maximum and having terrible summer performance. And of course, who can forget the very nasty fights under his leadership, from unions literally throwing chairs at each others in public meetings to the fact that the pilots are still fighting over seniority and consequently, from an operational perspective, the new AA/US is three airlines in one since flights under 700 can only be operated by former HP pilots.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but it has been well-documented on this board from flyers who have attended meetings in which Parker even when as far to say that the airline didn't need its Chairman's Preferred members, thereby reflecting a cavalier attitude to say the least.
Yes he hired Hector after his wings were on the line for the fact the airline couldn't get the yields it needed as a direct result of the extreme cuts he inflicted on his airline, making the F and J products among the most uncompetitive in the industry.
