Sorry for your extended tour but the obvious solution is to not get on the wrong train. That will get you unexpected results anywhere in the world.

The Haruka is clearly marked on the platform floor, on hanging signs over the platform and on the side of the train. Admittedly some of those are most obviously in hiragana but the hanging signs and train markings are in English as well.
