Do not understand at all,
“Turn up to be told room type is guaranteed but they overbooked.” If it’s guaranteed, that’s great. Just take the room and let someone else worry about the overbooking. OTOH, if they are saying that yes, the room type is guaranteed but you are SOL because they overbooked, that’s a different matter.
Also don’t know what an “exec double room” is. ES Waterfront in SF is an all-suite hotel. Some are called exec suites. Is this what you didn’t get?
If so, this is probably not a ‘walk’ situation because you won’t find anything comparable. It’s not like this is a hotel room, it is a suite and there are relatively few of them.
