DFW now has a second set of APC kiosks specifically to process ESTA holders and LPRs. There are now signs at DFW as you walk towards CBP indicating as follows:
Orange lane: APC for US and Canadian citizens (using previously installed APC kiosks which are photo-based)
Yellow lane: APC for LPRs and VWP/ESTA holders (new APC kiosks which include biometrics scanning, which are needed for all non-US/Canadian citizens)
NOTE: For the "yellow lane", signage indicates that traveler must have entered the US on current passport at least once since 2008 to be eligible for APC but does not clarify if this applies to ESTA holders only or LPRs as well. The signage was also not clear if LPRs use the APC kiosks by scanning their passports or their green cards.
Green lane: Carry-on passengers only, skips customs hall, similar to OneStop at IAH
I have yet to use APC anywhere thanks to Global Entry, but maybe I'll give APC a try just out of curiosity. It is also worth noting that all APC passengers were holding their APC receipt as well as the blue customs form after having cleared immigration. Finally, from what I saw when glancing at other passengers' documents, the APC receipts look similar to GE receipts, but different "enough" in that they seem horizontally/landscape oriented, not vertical/portrait as GE receipts are. Not sure if the information contained on them is any different.
I am a GE member who frequently uses the APC kiosks as a US citizen (instead of the GE kiosks); even without GE status, the customs declaration form is no longer generally required when using APC kiosks. Save the trees when using APC kiosks.
The US citizens using APC kiosks and the airline reps/crew aren't all familiar with the fact that most US citizens using the APC kiosks no longer are generally required to fill in the paper customs declaration forms. The electronic declaration on the APC kiosks has negated the general requirement for pen on paper forms.
