You have made a choice you will be happy with imho. I've stayed at the Luna (but not in the top suites you mention) and I found it decent and appealing with old-world ambience and an unbeatable location. But some of the reception staff left something to be desired, and I didn't feel that my room was worth the price. Also: A suite overlooking the Grand Canal can be dramatic indeed but the Grand Canal can be noisy.

Agreed on the above. October in Italy is absolute heaven.
Your entire trip sounds wonderful, and it's a relief to read of someone actually taking the proper amount of time to enjoy these spectacular destinations.
