I usually go outside of DC for Indian food.

Masala Express in Arlington, just a few miles outside of DC, is one of my favorites. They have a few tiny tables, but it's mostly take-out.

In Maryland, Woodlands Indian Restaurant has the best dosas in the area.

And for seriously high quality, creative Indian food in DC, Rasika is fantastic.
