Just a note that the book-one-and-wait-for-another J approach worked out. Starting mid-April I was looking for 2 J seats LAX-PPT start of Thanksgiving week. At that point I could only book 1 J seat outbound so I went with that hoping another would be release. Just last week my ExpertFlyer alert went off and they had released 2 more J award seats both on my date and the evening before. Worked out perfect since now my wife and I will both be in J for our honeymoon She's definitely relieved I'm now in J with her instead of in Y for LAX-PPT.
