BA certainly needs to work on the timeliness of this route. Being a regular on this route, I'm not concerned about it.
As far as as PHX-LHR-HYD connections goes unless there's a schedule change, and I looked two months out, I see a connection time of about 1hr 10m between flights. To me, that is too tight. But all things being equal it is certainly doable. I generally tend to give more time between two connecting long-haul flights (if possible), though with this routing it would seem to require overnighting in London.
I hope it works out well for your Father.

we bought the ticket direct from british airways so we will see about the connection time. We have had friends who flew the same route and had missed the HYD portion and had to be rescheduled onto another flight and we have had friends where they flew them to DEL then got them a domestic ticket to HYD. This is my fathers first time flying British airways so we will see how he likes it. He's currently flying world traveler but we were told on the phone to look every few days online to see the price of world traveler plus and that the price does go down as it gets closer to the travel date as we want to upgrade the whole trip to World Traveler plus. Since we fly Delta exclusively we don't have any British Airways miles. We do have a few AA miles but not a lot.
