As long as the dress code is posted, I have no problem with a lounge have one and enforcing it. If the GH's policy was posted, there is no basis for a "fuss" being made.
Full disclosure: In olden times, I was denied entry to Admirals Club because I was wearing shorts. I forgot that I had them but I was aware of the prohibition and was fine with getting the boot.
Personal disclosure: Crocs should be a violation of life's dress code. YMMV.
