Doesn't even need to be young & stupid. If someone's on the road a lot or for a long time & expense reports haven't been processed a lot of credit can be eaten up. Or they don't have a high credit card limit. Or on vacation if it's a long one & one is switching hotels. The holds + incidentals + exchange rate can add up quickly/eat one's available credit until the hold drops off (and int'l holds take longer to drop than domestic holds).
