Just bagged reward seats to and from Vancouver next January (a miracle in itself) and now face the very first world question of where to sit. Upstairs on the 747 or in the Old First seats? Presumably service, food etc will be the same so it simply comes down to the seat? We have been upstairs on 747 before, and in new first but not in OF. Was thinking about upstairs on the way out (day flight) and downstairs on the way back to take advantage of the bigger seat. But what do others think? And do we run the risk of being moved if there aren't enough passengers so the OF cabin isn't required?

I'm in the same position (except April rather than January). I took 2A/K each way. I can't recall the last time I flew that route and the plane wasn't rammed to the lockers. I'd be amazed if the front cabin were to be shut.
My concern is whether I'd find that the OF seat was broken, and didn't recline. But otherwise, it is much more comfortable (IMO), and you will disembark and board quicker at YVR.
