HGI Pismo Beach -- rooms to avoid

Had a recent disappointing stay at the HGI Pismo Beach, and was able to experience two rooms so you don't have to. We'd reserved a room with one king bed, and got that room--a bit smaller than typical HGI rooms not in urban centers. The first room, 227, was on the "garden level," which meant it looked out on a blank concrete wall. It had wet carpets and a terrible smell--basically, it needed a good airing for a few days before seeing a guest, but the hotel was full, so they gave it to us. After some polite discussion with the front desk, we were given room 326, which was the same-sized room that looked onto a concrete wall and a trash disposal area. Not recommended for the claustrophobic. Also, we were unable to get a wifi signal in 326, other than by leaning our device against the door. However, though 326 is immediately adjacent to the breakfast area, we didn't get significant noise from there.

Aside from the lack of view from the rooms and lack of sunlight, the hotel was fine--professional staff, clean hallways, quiet at night, etc. Still, unless you'll be occupying your room only in darkness, I'd suggest avoiding 227 and 326.
