It isn't "feigned." For me, seat comfort is defined by how wide the seat is, how soft/supportive the cushions are, and how far it reclines. The width of the aisle on a given airplane doesn't impact either of those three.
For example, I got to fly on one of the new Hawaiian configured 777s recently. Huge aisle towards the back of the F cabin - and it had no impact on how comfortable my seat was.
