Actually if you would like a fireworks show with your pool and ocean view, Rio de Janeiro would be better. However, there are no SPG hotels in Copacabana, where the fireworks are. There is a former Le Méridien, now run by the local Atlântica group, JW Marriott, Sofitel, Belmond Copacabana Palace, as well as numerous Brazilian chain and non-chain hotels. Over New Years the hotels tend to impose packages and the rates go up to triple or more the normal rates. Airbnb or similar might well be a better option. There is also Sydney, although there the water view would be to the bay. Getting a room with a view to the fireworks would no doubt be trickier and more expensive in Sydney than in Rio.
