The lounge is fine, although I wouldn't plan on eating there if you're looking for something substantial. There's a reasonable selection to nibble on and the drinks selection wasn't bad.
I think this rather under-sells the food on offer in the JNB lounge (which I think is the same on both the First and Club sides of the lounge).
The FT lounge card (see
this post) says:-
Self-service buffet offering soup, pasta/curry dishes, mini quiches, salad items, crisps and biscuits.
I think this is a reasonably accurate depiction of what's usually on offer, with the added observation that the "salad items" include a decent selection of cold meats etc.
A couple of weeks back, one of the hot main courses was a sort of seafood casserole. I can't remember what the other hot main course was, but the hot sides included a delicious vegetarian lasagne. All of it is usually of distinctly better quality than what you'd get in Galleries Club at LHR.
You could easily make a decent dinner out of all of this, particularly if you want to go to sleep on board rather than wait for dinner there.
My main disappointment about the lounge is that it's often too hot, particularly in the area near the drinks chillers.
