Not that I use the self service desks, but if I got to the airport without knowing the PNR I'd probably have forgotten my passport and the Blue card too (I'm not even sure if I've ever received one and if I did I don't know where it is).
But good point; you may have come up with an actual use for it, apart from an emergency windscreen ice scraper.
